Steve Jobs on DRM free music
Steve Jobs said today that he would “embrace it (DRM free music on iTunes) in a heartbeat” if he could. I think this is the beginning of corporate shift away from DRM, echoing the consumer shift that has been ongoing for quite some time. DRM is a bad idea that has run it’s course and I’m looking forward to seeing how fast it can crumble.

We at staunchly anti-DRM projectopus.com are having a field day with this one of course. An incredible turn of events. I posted the following comment to our discussion of it, wondering whether Mr Jobs’ change of heart doesn’t come after personal disapointment that going DRM and going propreitary has worked out for iTunes.

the thrust is… shall we believe that he was relectant to add DRM to iTunes downloads in the first place but FORCED to by the big four labels?
